2nd blog on Rhetorical Essay topic

I chose an essay from our textbook on page 676. It is titled “Study Finds Teenagers’ Internet Socializing Isn’t Such a Bad Thing” by Tamar Lewin. I read through a couple different essays and articles throughout our textbook and this one was the most interesting. It raises a current issue and seems to have a good deal of information to analyze, and how the author presents the information. There seems to be a lot of attention in today’s world about kids growing up on the internet and it will have negative effects in the future. Tamar Lewin argues that it is not as bad as people think it is. I think this essay/article will be a good opportunity for my first rhetorical analysis essay this semester. I am very familiar with Internet socializing and grew up with many of the programs Lewin references in his text.

1st blog on a blog I read

The blog I read : http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/19/elite-surfers-flock-to-hawaii-wait-to-take-on-20-foot-waves/

The purpose of the blog was inform the audience about the surf competition, The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau, nicknamed, "The Eddie". The audience is those who are interested in surfing and read blogs on CNN. The author uses quotes from contest organizers and contestants throughout the blog to inform. The argument uses facts about the swell and wave height. Basically, they only hold the contest if the waves are in perfect conditions- clean and over 20 feet. The author also uses anecdotes about Eddie Aikau, explaining how he died, and why the contest is held in his memory. Spreading awareness about the competition, and keeping Eddie Aikau's name alive was the author's purpose.
